Accident Demons are Lurking in the Parking Lots & Garages
1. Over the past few decades, vehicles such as SUVs and minivans have become increasingly more popular than sedans. The boxy design of these vehicles makes it almost impossible to see the car behind them backing out of a parking space.
2. Due to the increasing popularity of hybrid and electric cars, there is no engine sound when such cars are backing out of a parking space. In addition, the typical gas engine cars, even diesel engine cars, have become a lot quieter over the years, adding to the lack of alert during back outs.
3. More and more pedestrians are distracted using their cell phones while walking in the parking lots. They do not notice at all that a car is backing out unless there is an alert.
4. Children and dogs do not realize that they should not approach a car backing out of a parking space since there is no identifiable alert for them.
